Description
Japanese Furoshiki – Cloth Gift Wrap
Furoshiki date back to 710-794AD and translates as ‘bath spread’. Whilst at the sento (public baths), the cloth would be used to bundle up a bathers’ clothes. They were later used to wrap lunches and doubled as a table mat. They were also used for merchants to transport there wares and to protect and decorate a gift.
Furoshiki are now making a comeback as re-usable Gift Wrap for the eco-conscious consumer. There are many ways to tie them to wrap a gift – We supply them with a length of organza ribbon, making it very easy to gather the material and fix with the ribbon tied into a bow. The cloth is double sided and can be re-used over and over between family members and friends eliminating the need to keep buying wrapping paper. Should it ever become necessary they will compost as they are 100% cotton. They can also be washed and ironed.
